Leadership

Sussex Housing Group (SHG) is not a 501c3. SHG is run by volunteer committees formed by its General Membership and does not employ direct staff. Yet, SHG must continually seek funding sources for its initiatives. For this reason, SHG is staffed by its fiscal agent, Housing Alliance Delaware (HAD), which provides fiscal oversight and a part-time Community Organizer for Sussex County.

Sussex Housing Group (SHG) members may voluntarily serve on our committees. Each committee is ideally made up of two (2) co-chairs and four (4) to six (6) other members of the General Membership. Our current committees are:

• Policy & Advocacy (P&A) Committee

• Jumpstart Sussex (JSS) Initiative Committee

• Membership & Marketing (M&M) Committee

If you would like to serve on one of these committees or have an idea for a new initiative/committee, please contact the Community Organizer.

Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Policy and Advocacy Committee meets monthly and ideally consists of two (2) Co-Chairs and four (4) to six (6) members of the General Membership who will enjoy advocating for public policies in the best interest of Sussex Housing Group’s mission, initiatives, & members organizations.

Occasionally, attendance & testimony at County Council Meetings or Legislative Hall in Dover may be requested of committee members to advocate for set talking points pre-determined by the committee. Members may also write letters to the editor or emails to the County Council for this purpose.

At least one (1) of the two (2) Co-Chairs should attend each monthly meeting and the General Membership meeting to report into the larger group.

Jumpstart Sussex Initiative Committee

The JSS Initiative Committee meets monthly and ideally consists of two (2) Co-Chairs and four (4) – six (6) members of the General Membership who will work with a consultant from Jumpstart Wilmington and with the Affordable Housing Committee of Sussex Economic Development Action Committee (SEDAC) to create a county-wide citizen developer training and mentorship program.
 
At least one (1) of the two (2) Co-Chairs should attend each monthly meeting and the General Membership meeting to report into the larger group.

Membership and Marketing Committee

The Membership and Marketing Committee meets monthly and ideally consists of two (2) Co-Chairs and four (4) – six (6) members of the General Membership who will enjoy interacting with current and potential members of the Sussex Housing Group (SHG). They will engage the public by marketing SHG’s mission, initiatives, and the benefits of membership.

Occasionally, social media postings, marketing content & design, and website updates may be requested of committee members.

At least one (1) of the two (2) Co-Chairs should attend each monthly meeting and the General Membership meeting.
